I Dreamed I Had An Interview With God.

"So you would like to interview me?” God asked.

“If You have the time” I said.

God smiled. “My time is eternity. What questions do you have in mind for Me?”

“What surprises You most about humankind?”

God answered…
“That they get bored with childhood, they rush to grow up, and then long to be children again.”

“That they lose their health to make money… and then lose their money to restore their health.”

“That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they live in neither the present nor the future.”

“That they live as if they will never die, and die as though they had never lived.”

God’s hand took mine, and we were silent for a while.

And then I asked…
“As a parent, what are some of life’s lessons You want Your children to learn?”

God answered...
“To learn they cannot make anyone love them. All they can do is let themselves be loved.”

“To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others.”

“To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness.”

“To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in those they love, and it can take many years to heal them.”

“To learn that a rich person is not one who has the most, but is one who needs the least.”

“To learn that there are people who love them dearly, but simply have not yet learned how to express or show their feelings.”

“To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see it differently.”

“To learn that it is not enough that they forgive one another, but they must also forgive themselves.”

“Thank You for Your time,” I said humbly. “Is there anything else You would like Your children to know?”

God smiled and said,
“Just know that I am here… always.”

7 Things I Love About College

1. I’m free. I’ve always been a heck of an independent person, and in this way, college is carved out perfectly for me. I honestly don’t mind strolling to places or having meals by myself. For me, it’s just more time to self-reflect, listen to some good quality music, and enjoy every second of life. It’s not like CV, where you look like the odd one out if you are eating or sitting alone. I love making friends, but I love being alone just as much. It’s weird, I know – I’m having a hard time describing it!

2. I can take (pretty much) whatever classes I want. This semester I’m taking Philosophy, Journalism, Political Science, Theatre Arts, two Kinesiology courses and a Harry Potter course. It’s amazing how much I look forward to class each and every day, although it does take me a LOT to get me out of bed in the morning. I think I'm taking seventeen units again next semester, hooray!...

3. It gives me an excuse to make non-Asian friends… Although many of the friends I have made here so far are Asian. I don’t know why it always ends up working out that way! Yikesss.

4. The Internet connection is good, at least compared to the Charter cable connection I had at home… which, incidentally, happens to break down on weekends when I AM home. Praise God for college Ethernet!

5. I’m not as stressed about family matters. Distance truly does wonders.

6. There are so many opportunities here to do so many things. I’ve been volunteering in residential hall events for my scholarship events, and I'll even be returning to CV to do presentations on CSU Long Beach, if you’re looking for me there… (; So far I’ve helped organize a 50’s Sock Hop dance on campus, and I think the blood drive at the end of this month. I seriously want to do everything, but I don’t want to relive junior year of high school again!

7. It’s a new start – a fresh, blank page for me to scribble on. Need I say more?

Open for Interpretation

The reason why I love Criminal Minds so much is because it starts -- or ends -- with a quotation that stimulates my mind. This television series must have been carved out for me, because I love quotations; I mean, I read them obsessively, to a point where I actually get weekly e-mail digests of famous quotes. I adore them because I can relate to them in a dozen different ways. Before salvation, I would think of a certain quotation in one way; now, I see it in a completely different light, and still respect the quotation for what it originally meant when it was first spoken (or written). I hope that makes sense!

Here's a quotation from Season 4, Episode 2.

“We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.” -Chuck Palahnuik

I suppose the first thing that comes into our minds when we read this sentence is the word legacy. Leaving a legacy after your death - isn't that a pleasant thought? A piece of you will be left here, on this Earth; those who encounter it will know that it was YOU who had created that legacy. Talk about making a difference in the world!

When I was a child, I used to dream of that. I wanted to build an ingenious invention that would become a household must-have for the families of this world; pen a novel adored by teens, generation after generation; and simply become someone who had the capability to make an imprint on the lives of those she'd never even known. Such great power and influence! Don't we all fantasize of that?

But now that I've grown up a bit and filled my empty head with some substance, I've come to realize that my purpose for life isn't all about leaving something behind that will allow people to remember me. My reason for life is to spread the GOOD NEWS, and to leave behind the legacy of the love of Jesus Christ and His followers, not of MY achievements. Not even my love for God, because what should be shining through it all and receiving the most glory out of it all is God, not me!

(edit: I wrote this weeks ago, but for some reason it never got published! Yikes!)

The World is Too Much With Us

The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon;
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers,
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not.--Great God! I'd rather be
A pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;

Or hear old Triton blow his wreathèd horn.

-William Wordsworth (1807)
